Over 1000 students from a range of disciplines graduated this week.
The winter graduation ceremonies took place on Thursday and yesterday at City Square, with some students winning special awards.
One of them was Phelim Garrett-Hanna who received the University of Dundee’s Wimberley Award for his contribution to academic life.
The 21-year-old from Kirriemuir was class representative in his first and second year, moving on to become class president in third year.
He volunteered for the university’s Nightline service, providing confidential support to his fellow students.
Phelim, who now has a job as a staff nurse at the acute medical unit in Ninewells Hospital, said: “I feel that it is important for students to make the most of their time at university and I didn’t feel I would be able to fulfil my full potential unless I got involved in things beyond just my field of study.
“For me, that meant helping people, which is why I got involved as a class representative,” said Phelim.
“I also saw the chance to improve things and that is why I ran for class president.
“Similarly, there were times when I needed help and that was why I got involved at Nightline so that if anyone was feeling like I was, they could be sure of having someone to talk to.
“I didn’t expect to get an award at the end of it but I am delighted. This is a great honour and makes my graduation even more of a special occasion.”
