Dundee men accused of switching barcodes to try to buy TVs for 40p

Two men have appeared in court accused of trying to buy £467 worth of television sets from a Dundee supermarket for 40p.

Prosecutors allege Kyle Christie and Mathew Ferguson pretended to buy two televisions at the full price from a Tesco South Road self-scan checkout, but deliberately input the wrong barcodes.

The pair are also alleged to have pretended to a Tesco employee that they had lawfully purchased a television at its genuine price.

Christie, 23, Adamson Court, and Ferguson, 21, North Lindsay Street, both Dundee, deny two charges of fraud.

They will stand trial on February 11 with a pre-trial hearing on January 27.

Meanwhile, a Polish national fighting extradition to his home country has been jailed for four months for shoplifting.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Piotr Hazuka, 31, was the subject of an outstanding European arrest warrant after being sentenced in Poland to two years imprisonment for assault and attempted robbery.

Hazuka and co-accused Maciej Kedzior, 36, admitted stealing perfume and razors from Tesco Kingsway on September 20 while on bail.

Kedzior was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
