Dundee HMRC staff stage demo vowing to fight closure plans
ByStefan Morkis
Around 40 HMRC workers have staged a protest against the planned closure of a Dundee tax office.
One hundred and thirty members of staff face losing their jobs if Caledonia House closes.
Under the plans announced on November 12, staff working at its Sidlaw House premises in Dundee will be transferred to the Department for Work and Pensions.
Rachael Paton from the Public and Commercial Services union organised Friday’s protest at Caledonian House and said Dundee could not afford to lose high-quality jobs.
“It’s a bit too early to talk about industrial action but we are trying to engage the support of the public,” she said.
SNP politicians Chris Law MP and Joe FitzPatrick MSP and Labour MSP Jenny Marra all attended to pledge their support.
