Plan for 16,000-chicken shed at Muirhead egg business

A farm near Dundee is seeking planning permission for a chicken shed to take 16,000 birds.
PA Arbuckle & Sons, owners of Lundie Castle Farm, west of Muirhead, want to expand their free range egg production business.
The proposed shed would be almost 1,300 sq m although it would be lower than the existing one and would share its ranging area, egg store and packing room.
Arbuckle’s agents Felsham said: “The proposal will support and expand the existing business of Lundie Castle Farm by enhancing the capacity of the egg production operations.”
The new building would have to comply with laws on the stocking density of the birds and customer Noble Foods would require the farm to conform to the industry code of practice and RSPCA Freedom Food Scheme.
Felsham said the extension would be “well-screened, well-designed and the type of building that would be expected to be seen in the countryside”.
