Smaller events take the stage after Dundee decides against a big Hogmanay bash

A host of events are planned around Dundee for Hogmanay.
Funding totalling £14,000 has been handed out to groups in Dundee in a bid to ensure that people will begin 2016 in style despite plans for a major party in the city centre falling through.
Individual grants of between £500 and £3,000 have gone to groups including Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club for a Hockey Hogmanay Festival, the Central Baptist Church is holding a multicultural party, and there will be a Hogmanay party at Mill o’ Mains Community Centre.
Meanwhile, the Fintry Families Hogmanay Hootsman event will include a family walk from Powrie Park to the Scottish Soldier that overlooks the city, poetry recitals, story telling and a buffet.
Douglasfield Tenants Social Group will welcome the new year with stovies and bannocks, and the Unicorn Preservation Society is holding a family ceilidh on the historic ship with traditional music and a performance from Sheena Wellington.
Hindmarsh Tenants’ and Residents’ Association is to hold its own party.
The Rep is hosting a Hogmanay ceilidh in the Bonar Hall at 8pm.
A Hogmanay crossover service will take place at the City Church at 11pm.
