Dundee’s £1 billion waterfront redevelopment is on track, with councillors to discuss the tender for the demolition of the city’s train station next week.
Members of the city development committee will consider a £1.5 million demolition project a month ahead of the planned opening of a new entrance to the station.
The tender will cover the removal of the station buildings, lift, stairs and bridge structure as the next stage of the railway station redevelopment.
City development committee convener Will Dawson said he hopes the redevelopment will bring economic benefits to the waterfront.
He said: “Works are already in progress to create a temporary ticket office and entrance to the rail station at the Riverside layby. This new station entrance is anticipated to be in use from October 24.
“ScotRail will be publishing notices to advise passengers of this change and will be posting these throughout the station buildings.”
Mr Dawson added: “We are witnessing a period of massive change in the waterfront and approval of this tender would help our ambitious regeneration of the area move forward even further.”
The redeveloped train station will form a key part of the city’s new-look waterfront.
A five-story, crescent-shaped building is planned, featuring a 130-room hotel that could open by 2015. The building will also feature retail units and a cafe/restaurant, as well as ticketing facilities.
