Worker’s lucky escape after vandals target Dundee factory

A Dundee factory worker had a lucky escape from serious injury after vandals threw stones at a window in a “mindless” attack.

The man, who works for Trak Microwave on Dunsinane Avenue, was inside the building when a shower of stones broke the window next to him.

He was covered in glass but remarkably was not injured. Four young men were seen running away to nearby waste ground at Beechwood. Police say one of the men was wearing a white or cream hoodie and had dark hair that was long on the top.

The youths were seen on the factory CCTV returning a short time later but ran off when they were chased by employees.

Alan McNeill, managing director of Trak, which designs and manufactures commercial and military products, described the incident as “mindless violence”.

“I don’t think the kids that threw the stones knew there was anyone near the window,” Mr McNeill said.

“We get incidents like this from time to time and it is disappointing. It is a distraction for us trying to do our business.

“Fixing the damage and tidying up the windows means we are not investing that money back into the business. Machines were also stopped for a while after it happened. It is an annoyance we could well do without.”

The vandalism, which occurred around 7.20pm on Tuesday, was the second incident at the factory in two days, after an employee’s car parked outside the building was badly damaged.

Mr McNeill said: “To have both of those incidents happen is disappointing. It’s mindless violence and it is lucky no one was hurt.”

Anyone with information that could assist police with their inquiries should call them on 101, or talk to any officer.
