Dundee responds to help bring Nadine Duffy home

People in Dundee have raised £10,000 to bring home the body of 19-year-old Nadine Duffy who died in Magaluf.

Nadine died in the Spanish holiday resort last week and since then family, friends and complete strangers from the city and further afield have been holding fundraising events to help her family bring her home.

Nadine’s mum Karen and sister Shelley were in Magaluf to begin the process of repatriation. Shelley took to Facebook to thank everyone who has helped the appeal.

She said: “We can now bring my beautiful baby sis home and give her the send-off she deserves.

“Also, thanks to the amazing support my family has received from various places in the world, it looks like there will be money left over to set up a charity which helps any families in the future who find themselves in this awful situation.

“Every single person involved should be extremely proud of themselves. What an amazing city we live in. I’m very proud to be from Dundee.”

Family friend Karen Flanaghan, who helped organise the fundraising, said they had been overwhelmed by the support.

She said: “It is amazing. We set a Facebook page up less than a week ago, and on Wednesday morning we believed we had a mammoth task on our hands. It is phenomenal what has come in here.

“We never could have done it without people’s help and I wouldn’t have believed that everyone could have such big hearts.

“There are too many people who have put a lot of effort in to thank them personally, but I would like to say a massive thank you to Dundee. The family went out there on Saturday.

“They are hoping to have Nadine home by Friday.”

Events including bucket collections and a quiz have been held across the city since the campaign began, but there are many still to be held.
