An animal rescuer has told of her shock after two cats were abandoned on a Dundee street when their owner was apparently evicted from her home.
The moggies, who have now been named Thelma and Louise, were “thin and flea-ridden” when they were found on St Fillans Road due to spending around 10 days on the streets.
They are now doing well with a foster family in the city and may be up for permanent re-homing after a few weeks if no one comes forward to claim them.
Angela Smith, 48, founder of Angus Cat Rescue, said: “When the cats were brought in they were covered in fleas.
“One of them has quite a bad flea allergy and had bald patches but she’s doing better now.
“They were quite thin, although people had been feeding them.
“Both cats have been treated and wormed and are getting the attention they need in their foster home in Dundee.
“If the owner doesn’t come forward to claim them we’ll be looking at re-homing them permanently in the next few weeks.
“They’re beautiful, friendly cats.
“It’s rare for something like this to happen and it can be shocking, but there are various reasons for it.
“I was told that the owner had been evicted from her home and it can be hard to find a space in a rescue centre at short notice.”
A resident on St Fillan’s Road, who did not wish to be named, said she had seen the cats roaming the streets.
She added: “They were outside for around 10 days. I believe the owner was evicted, so they were on their own.
“I don’t know if they were put out on the street or left indoors and found their own way outside.
“I helped to get them into a carrier to bring them to the cat rescue.
“They were very scared and my arms are now covered in scratches.
“But now that they’re being cared for they’re very friendly and have started to relax.”
