Dundee Scout leader Susan Lamb has died at the age of 54 after a battle with bone cancer.

She became involved in the 49th Scouts at Barnhill St Margaret’s in 1990 when her eldest son, Bobbie, joined the cubs, and went on to become a cub and beaver leader.

She also gave her time to the Dundee Gang Show where she was a dresser backstage until this year.

Admired for her interest and care for the young people, she made the annual Beaver sleepover at Douglaswood a highlight of the calendar and was also an inspiring leader of the Beaver programme.

She was to be presented with Chief Scout’s awards when her health deteriorated. These will now be presented to her youngest son, Cameron, who has followed in her footsteps as a leader.

Susan spent her early years in the Newtown St Boswells area of the Borders, where her father Bob Gray was a farmer. The family moved to Dundee when Mr Gray became chairman of the building firm Charles Gray.

Educated at Hillside Primary and Harris Academy, she worked in the registry office of the former Northern College of Education at Gardyne campus and became secretary to the head of community and social education.

When the campus became part of Dundee University she took the role of team leader in the school of education, community education and social work where she coordinated practice placements for students.

She maintained her rural connections by joining the Angus Young Farmers. Susan is survived by husband Robin, sons Bobbie, Stewart and Cameron, daughter Laura, granddaughter Holly, and parents Bob and Rae.
