One of Dundee’s busiest car parks will have to shut on Monday to cater for Stampy-mania.
Internet sensation Stampy Cat will visit the city next week and thousands of youngsters will pack into the Caird Hall to see the Minecraft phenomenon.
The star’s YouTube videos are some of the world’s most watched, with millions clamouring to see him create stunning landscapes using the record-breaking game’s technology.
Each post has become a global event and the chance of a live audience with Stampy real name Jason Garrett instantly captured the imagination of people across Dundee.
More than 30 bus loads of pupils will be delivered to the Caird Hall to see him headline the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s biggest ever Christmas Lecture.
That will force the temporary closure of one the city’s most popular city-centre car parks, at Shore Terrace, to the rear of the venue.
It will be needed to accommodate the city youngsters, who have been offered the chance to attend the first of two shows free of charge on Monday.
When tickets went on sale for the second show, which will be held on the Monday evening, more than 500 parents, grans and granddads queued for hours to secure a place for hundreds of additional children.
From his home in Hampshire, Stampy Cat creates daily videos showing the incredibly detailed landscapes, creatures and adventures he creates with Minecraft.
Each video can receive in the region of 27 million views, and while fans of all ages following his work it is youngsters who have made him a star.
As his audience looks on, in the lecture Stampy will create a new Minecraft adventure live on stage, alongside one of the men who brought Minecraft to life 4J Studios’ chairman Chris van der Kuyl.
Dundee City Council said: “Shore Terrace car park, at the rear of the concert venue, will be closed to drivers on November 30 for the Royal Society of Edinburgh Christmas Lecture.
“The internet phenomenon that is Stampy Cat and his personal appearance at the hall as part of the lecture has attracted huge numbers, including pupils from schools across the city.
“Shore Terrace car park is expected to reopen at around 3pm.”
