A plea by hotel chain Malmaison for suggestions on what it should call its five luxury suites has triggered a huge response.
Hundreds of names for the suites have been suggested on this site and our Facebook page as well as through Twitter.
The hotel is scheduled to open on December 1, and general manager Claire Livingston, who launched the appeal for suite names on Monday, said time is running out for people to make suggestions.
She said: “Hopefully we will make a decision soon we want to announce it by the end of the week.
“We have a few favourites, but they are all top secret it is going to be a surprise.”
Popular suggestions include naming the suites Seagate, Murraygate, Wellgate, Overgate and Nethergate while others want to name them after Broughty, Claypotts, Dudhope, Mains and Powrie castles.
Other suggest the hotel opt for the Dundee’s connection to Antarctic exploration, naming suites after Captain Scott, Ernest Shackleton and ships the RRS Discovery, Terra Nova, Endurance and Nimrod.
However, plenty of less predictable suggestions have also been put forward.
Dundee United fan Fraser Keil suggested naming one The Unbeaten Against Bara Suite, while several posters also suggested naming one The Palpatine Suite after the character played by Dundee-born actor Ian McDiarmid in Star Wars.
A number of other famous Dundonians were put forward as suggestions including Liz McColgan, Brian Cox, Michael Marra and even contentious politician George Galloway.
