Cameron Hunter, 53, of Kingsway, previously admitted that between July 28 2011 and June 19 this year, at an address on Kingsway, he stole electricity. He further admitted that between the same dates and at the same location, he caused damage to an electricity meter provided by SSE. And he admitted that between the same dates and at the same premises he prevented his electricity meter from being read. The court heard the value of the electricity Hunter stole was £9,915.08 and the damage he caused to the meter was to the value of £267.78. Sheriff Hughes said: “You have stolen £10,000 worth of power. “This is at a time when there are so many poor families in fuel poverty and you thought you could just happily walk away. “This is very, very serious.” Hunter was ordered to complete the Community Payback Order within six months.
