A car burst into flames on the outskirts of Dundee yesterday.
The black Mercedes saloon caught fire at about 6.40am on Kellas Road, near the Poplar Drive junction.
The male driver escaped from the vehicle and called firefighters.
Police were on scene directing traffic as firefighters tackled the blaze, thought to be caused by a mechanical fault.
A spokeswoman for Fire Scotland said: “We got a call at 6.40am reporting a car on fire. It was well alight. One appliance was sent from the Kingsway fire station and a hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.”
The smoking wreckage was cordoned off at the side of the road and the fire crew left the scene at 7.30am.
Constable Martin Luke said: “It was an engine fault. There were flames coming from the engine and a lot of smoke.”
