Man accused of setting fire to Bible on Easter Sunday
ByThe Courier Reporter
A MAN is to stand trial after being accused of setting fire to a Bible on Easter Sunday.
Nicholas Cheyne is alleged to have vandalised the book by setting it alight at an address in Dundee’s Dura Street on April 5.
He is also alleged to have behaved in a threatening and abusive manner on Easter Monday by shouting and swearing.
Cheyne faces a further allegation that he assaulted his former partner on Monday by striking her on the head and body with a plastic bottle, dragging her along the floor by her hair and throwing her on to a set of drawers.
He is then said to have pulled her hair, grabbed a mobile phone from her hand and pushed her on the body to her injury.
Cheyne, 24, of Dura Street, Dundee, pleaded not guilty to the three charges on summary complaint.
John Boyle, defending, asked he be released on bail after he appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Sheriff George Way set a trial date in July and released Cheyne on bail meantime.
