‘Pride and joy’ bikes worth £10,000 stolen from Broughty Ferry family home

A father and son have been left distraught after their custom-built mountain bikes were stolen from Broughty Ferry by thieves on Saturday night.

Ewen Kerr, 50, and his 17-year-old son Scott both had their prized bikes taken after the shed was broken into.

The thieves took four bikes, worth a total of £10,000, but two of the less expensive bikes have since been recovered.

Ewen found one of the bikes dumped in nearby woodland and another was found by police.

Still missing are Ewen’s metallic beige Transition Bandit worth £4,000, and Scott’s bright blue Ragley MmmBop worth £2,000.

Ewen said: “I just feel awful. It has all been quite distressing.

“The bikes are pretty distinctive. I built them all up and customised them myself. My son’s bike was his pride and joy.

“The money doesn’t mean as much as the work that we put into them. A lot of the parts I got for them I can’t get again.”

Ewen said the thieves gained access to the shed through a neighbour’s property and climbed over a wall.

He said: “They seem to have gone to a lot of effort to get them.”

The break-in at the property at Invermark Terrace is believed to have taken place on Saturday night, sometime between midnight and 1am.
