A group of university students have bared all to help promote health checks.
The CoppaFeel Dundee Uni Boob Team, made up of 30 young students at Dundee and Abertay universities, have exposed themselves to raise awareness of breast cancer in young people.
The group is on a mission to stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer by encouraging people to routinely check for changes.
To help spread their message, the Dundee group have teamed up with RAF Leuchars to produce a nude calendar in which members pose as 1950s nurses and military personnel.
The calendar is the group’s main fundraiser to continue its campaign this year.
The group was founded in the summer by 21-year-old Emily Lucas, who said as many members of the Boob Team are medical students they felt it was important to highlight the issue that affects so many people.
She said: “This has never been done in Dundee so we want people to know who we are.
“A lot of us have also been personally affected, and a family member of mine was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
“We are trying to make young people more aware of breast cancer and the fact you can get it in your early twenties. That’s why the charity is teaming up with universities.”
There are about 50 boob groups across the UK, all based around universities. The largest group has around 300 members.
The Dundee team is organising a recruitment drive in the hopes of expanding their group.
Emily said: “We have around 30 members but that’s not enough people. We are mostly nursing students and we have a few sports students but we are trying to branch out.”
To order a copy of the fundraising calendar, which costs £6, the group can be contacted through their Facebook page Coppafeel Dundee Uni Boob Team.
They also provide a free text message service reminding people to check their breasts for changes each month which people can sign up for by texting DUNDEE to 70500. For more information visit www.coppafeel.org.
