A “dangerous” serial child sex offender, who lured a string of girls to his flat to give them tattoos before sexually assaulting them, will be sentenced in the New Year.
Paul McLellan, 43, a prisoner at Barlinnie Prison, appeared in court on Tuesday before Sheriff George Way, who said he was calling for a supplementary psychiatric report.
McLellan had been found guilty of 22 charges last month 12 of illegally giving tattoos to girls under the age of 18 and 10 sexual offences.
Sentence had been deferred until Tuesday, however, Sheriff Way said it was “regrettable” that the psychiatrist who had prepared a previous report on McLennan had not been able to get out to see him in Barlinnie.
“It’s critical that she gets out because she gave a previous report and will give a really important clinical overview of this.
“She spent some time with him and her previous report is extensive. I consider it essential that she looks to see if there is any change in his condition as at that stage she had some considerable concerns for Mr McLellan.”
Advocate Jonathan Crowe, for McLellan, said the psychiatrist had an appointment to see the accused and Sheriff Way deferred sentence until January 3 for a report to be prepared.
McLellan was remanded in custody. After the jury at Dundee Sheriff Court gave its verdict, the court was told McLellan had previously been jailed for three years in 2003 in England for two sexual assaults on young girls.
He was then in 2006 given a four-year jail term for sexual offences against girls under the age of 16 in Scotland.
