The Malmaison hotel in Dundee could remain shut until the end of January, leaving many would-be guests with the prospect of cancelling their Christmas plans.
The boutique hotel chain’s chief executive Gary Davis has told The Courier the hotel could stay closed over the festive period, delaying the opening of one of the major players in the Dundee Waterfront project.
“We are trying to find out when the building will be able to be occupied. We are hoping it will be in the next few weeks. The only issue at the moment is can it be done before the holiday?” said Mr Davis.
“We can’t give an exact date. The latest we are hoping would be the end of January.”
Malmaison has not actually taken possession of the building yet and the date the company takes control has been pushed back in the wake of last Wednesday night’s flood.
Mr Davis said: “The developer and the contractor have had a huge problem, a flood in the building. One of the hot-water pipes burst and it flooded overnight, the night of November 27/28. Someone saw water pouring out.
“We were supposed to take possession the day after and we were due to open on Saturday.”
