Investors interested in bringing two new hotels to Dundee waterfront

The council is inviting interest from companies looking to invest in the city's new waterfront locations.

Two new luxury hotels are being planned for Dundee’s waterfront.

Dundee City Council has revealed it is already in discussion with companies looking to build hotels on two parts of the reconstructed waterfront Riverside Esplanade and Black Watch Parade.

Administration leader and convener of the council’s policy and resources committee Ken Guild said private investors have already expressed interest in developing five of the new sites being created as part of the waterfront regeneration, which is anchored by the £80.1 million V&A at Dundee.

As well as two upmarket hotels, proposed new developments include offices, private rented accommodation and a “creative industries hub”.

Mr Guild said the council expects to receive £400 million investment in the waterfront over the next 15 years, on top of the £600 million that has already been committed.

“That will produce more of the jobs and prosperity we are seeking but it is pleasing to note that there have already been massive community benefits from the project,” he said.

“In just 18 months from January 2014 almost £4m has been spent locally with local contractors undertaking major packages of activity at the site.

“It is crystal clear from these figures that Dundee Waterfront is boosting the economy and communities in the city now and will continue to do so in the future.”

If the hotel plans go ahead, they will add to the waterfront’s already booming service sector.

In addition to the Apex, Malmaison and Holiday Inn already trading, a Sleeperz hotel is being planned as part of the railway station redevelopment.
