Around 1,000 graduates were told that they are ready for a “life of learning” thanks to their time at Abertay University.
That was the key message from principal and vice-chancellor Professor Nigel Seaton as he welcomed a record number of students and 3,000 staff, family and friends to two graduation ceremonies at Caird Hall.
He congratulated the graduates on their success and told them they should be proud of all they had achieved.
Prof Seaton said: “You have all taken your own journey through Abertay. You all, I’m sure, have some stories to tell.
“During your time at Abertay, I have been fortunate enough to be able to speak to some of you, and to learn about your experiences what you have enjoyed, what you have found difficult, and what you have found rewarding.
“What you have in common is that you have all mastered your field of study, and that you have all faced some pretty tough challenges along the way.”
He added: “What lies before you? Well, Abertay’s emphasis on preparing its students for the world of work is well known, but of course there’s more to it than that.
“As I sometimes like to say, at Abertay we prepare you for a life of work, and for a life of learning.”
During the morning and afternoon ceremonies degrees were conferred by Abertay’s chancellor, Lord Cullen of Whitekirk, in subjects as diverse as biomedical science, computer games technology and ethical hacking.
The ceremonies included the award of an honorary degree to Lord Hope of Craighead, a former Lord Justice General of Scotland and Lord President of the Court of Session who became the first Deputy President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
