A fundraising bid in support of an Angus boy has met its target.
Three-year-old Blake McMillan from Carnoustie fought back from the brink of death last week after experiencing complications brought on by a rare medical condition.
He was placed on life support after being rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh under police escort last month.
He was having breathing difficulties and pneumonia caused a dramatic deterioration in his condition, but he rallied to get home from Ninewells Hospital on Friday.
Fundraisers set out to raise money for research into the condition, and kind-hearted chiefs at Dundee United weighed in with eight hospitality tickets for an upcoming game.
The tickets will be won based on the “bonus ball” draw of the National Lottery on April 9.
Balls were up for £20 each and fundraiser Claire Puzey’s target of £1,180 has been met.
Claire said: “We have very kindly been donated hospitality for eight people at Dundee United worth £800 at a home match. All proceeds will go to funding research for the cruel condition MECP2 duplication which Blake McMillan has.”
Blake’s mother Jenny took to social media to break the news that he was finally out of Ninewells at the weekend.
But a later update revealed Blake had been back in hospital.
Jenny posted: “Another visit to Ninewells this morning with a temperature of 39.8 (degrees) and not very well at all.
“He was allowed home due to not requiring oxygen, but his temperature is up again.
“He has been given antibiotics to cover him for whatever infection he is brewing. With a house full of various germs, it hasn’t shocked that he is ill again.
“This has been such a long haul, really wish it was over.
“The sad thing is, I know that we could face this all again in the future.”
Blake’s fightback has confounded medics and thousands of people have been following his battle online.
