A Dundee shop owner has spoken of a climate of fear in the area after two serious crimes occurred in less than 24 hours.
Tahir Mahmood, owner of Super City News on Lochee Road, said his staff were now “scared” to work after an armed raider threatened his 19-year-old daughter with a 12-inch blade on Friday afternoon.
Then, on Saturday, a 50-year-old man working in the nearby Cleghorn Licensed Convenience Shop was the victim of another alleged assault.
Police have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with Saturday’s incident and he is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court this morning.
Police said they are not connecting the two incidents but stressed inquiries are ongoing.
Mr Mahmood said: “My staff are scared of what might happen. We now keep two people in the shop to try and stop these things happening.
“To have two incidents carried out in the same area and within 24 hours is really frightening.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service said a 50-year-old man received treatment for head and neck injuries following Saturday’s incident.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
Less than 24 hours before that incident Mr Mahmood’s daughter was threatened by an armed robber wielding a knife. The robber escaped with a three-figure sum of money.
The shocking attack was captured on the store’s CCTV.
The woman was shaken but unhurt by the incident and police are still hunting that assailant.
