Aberdeen tattoo convention cancelled after Dundee event axed

A tattoo convention in Aberdeen has been cancelled just weeks after a similar event in Dundee was axed.
The Courier exclusively revealed that there were major doubts regarding the Aberdeen Tattoo Expo after the company organising it – Ky Thomasson-Kay’s Rebellion Events – dissolved in March.
Mr Thomasson-Kay had already suffered a backlash after a similar tattoo convention he organised in Dundee was cancelled in equally murky circumstances.
The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre said a “lack of communication” with the event organiser meant they had “no choice” but to cancel the display.
More than 550 people had paid almost £17 per head for tickets to the event and the AECC suggested they should contact Ticketmaster to process a refund.
Rebellion Events, which was used to organise the conventions, was dissolved in March but continued to take deposits and sell tickets for both events beyond that point.
Deposits for the Dundee convention will be returned once event insurance comes through, according to Mr Thomasson-Kay, although The Courier was unable to reach him for comment about what would happen to ticket money from the Aberdeen event if it is cancelled.
