Dundee’s bid to host the national performance centre for sport received public support at a drop-in session.
A stream of people visited an exhibition of the £30 million project at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
The site is less than a mile from Camperdown Park where the city council want to build the multi-sports performance centre, including a national football academy, to help sportsmen and women reach their full potential.
An announcement is imminent from the Scottish Government about whether the venue will go to Dundee, Stirling or Edinburgh. The drop-in session gave the public a chance to study the details of the project and question architects Keppie Design.
Merrill Smith, Dundee City Council’s head of policy for leisure, culture and communities, said: “People have been enthusiastic and have said they would be very proud if the centre comes to Dundee.”
Jack Searle of Dundee Civic Trust said: “We are very pleased to see this get so far ahead. In principle the trust thinks this is a really good project.”
The council would invest £5m in the project which will also benefit from £25m from the Government.
