Staff at a Dundee day centre for adults with autism have slammed “mindless” vandals after windows there were smashed for the third time in a fortnight.
Hillview Resource Centre in Reid Square was targeted at the weekend after two large rocks were thrown through a dining room window, leaving glass strewn across a table and the floor.
Registered manager Frances Benmalek said she and her colleagues were “disgusted” at the attack, which follows two similar incidents over the last two weeks.
She said: “It’s mindless and it’s sad. I don’t know why they’ve done it and if they know the people who access the service have disabilities.
“This is a dining room where our service users eat their lunch on a daily basis.
“The windows were broken outwith hours, but if we had had people here sitting having their lunch, I would dread to think what damage would have been done, because the glass was everywhere.
“One of the rocks hit the back wall, so it must have come though with some force to get that far. The rocks were quite big.”
The Sense Scotland centre provides day support for people on the autistic spectrum, with activities for service users including music and art sessions.
Ms Benmalek said: “Last week we were called out to the centre at five in the morning because the alarm system went off when another window was smashed.
“Before that, one of the top windows had to be replaced, so that’s the third time in two weeks. The staff are quite disgusted, but they are a great team who get on with the job and they make sure that the service users’ day isn’t disrupted.”
