The glamourand grit of the 1980s post-punk music scene is the subject of a major forthcoming photography exhibition in Dundee.
The What Presence! show at the McManus next month showcases the work of legendary Scottish music photographer Harry Papadopoulos.
The exhibition features more than 300 images shot between 1979 and 1984, with subjects including The Clash, Orange Juice and Dundee’s Billy Mackenzie.
McManus’ social history curator Rhona Rodger said there was already “great excitement” about the exhibition.
She said: “There are a lot of really quite quirky images and they are themed, so one of the sections for example will feature bands.
“We will also be running a lot of different activities, including talks and musical performances around the exhibition.”
The touring exhibition from the Streetlevel Photoworks in Glasgow was co-curated by Bluebells singer Ken McCluskey.
Papadopoulos was a self-taught photographer, whose diverse photographic career started by selling gig-goers photographs outside the Glasgow Apollo in the late 1970s.
He later became a staff photographer for Sounds magazine where he captured a number of rock stars on film.
The McManus hopes the exhibition will inspire the community of Dundee to delve into their attics and dig out their own photographic treasures and music memorabilia.
They will be encouraging people to share their music memories with the museum online, to increase their knowledge about the local music scene at that time.
Rhona added: “People get quite excited about that period and it has a lot of good associations for them.
“We have set up a Flickr page for people to share their photographs and get people talking.”
The exhibition runs from Friday May 3 until Sunday August 11.
