Dundee dog attack gran says toddler mauling ‘happened so fast’

Little Ollie was left with shocking injuries.

The grandmother of a Dundee tot savaged by a family pet has spoken of her horror.

Little Ollie Cummings was playing in the kitchen of a house in the St Mary’s area of Dundee on Friday night when the bullmastiff attacked him.

The two-year-old was left with significant face and head injuries following the terrifying incident.

Paramedics rushed to the property at around 11pm on Friday and Ollie was taken to Ninewells. Medics kept him under observation overnight and he was then taken into theatre for a two-hour plastic surgery operation.

Grandmother Debs Martin, 48, described what happened.

“Ollie had been playing with keys, walking from one door to another pretending to lock and unlock them,” she said. “It all happened so fast. We’re not sure if he maybe dropped the keys next to the dog.

“There are teeth marks on his head and a large cut from his nose to near his eye. His nose is being rebuilt.

“The doctors say that is a clean cut,” Ms Martin continued. “The biggest worry is preventing infection.”

Ollie’s mum Natasha Wilson, 25, snatched her son away following the attack, which took place at her boyfriend’s home.

Ms Martin said the toddler who is set to celebrate his third birthday this week was used to being around the dog.

“Ollie has known it for six months,” she said. “He’s been saying ‘love Ollie, love Ollie’ he’s not been phased or scared.

“The dog was taken straight to kennels by its owner, who is adamant it will be put down. He and Natasha are shocked and upset.”

It is understood the toddler now faces further surgery when he is aged around 10 years.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the force was unable to comment on the incident.
