A former Monifieth High School teacher caught with a haul of thousands of indecent images and videos of children is to appeal his jail term.
Angus McCormack, 50, was jailed for 3 years in November at Forfar Sheriff Court after admitting possessing the material and distributing indecent photographs of children.
McCormack had 7,600 images and more than 10 hours of videos on his computer of children, mainly boys, being abused.
Sheriff Kevin Veal handed McCormack a 6-year extended sentence, with 3 years in jail and three on licence, and placed him on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
McCormack, who shared a home in Birkhill with his wife of 26 years, has now appealed to get his sentence reduced.
Solicitor John Macdonald said: “It’s not to do with the conditions. He understands those and he knows he won’t teach again. The appeal is against the severity of the prison sentence.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Courts Service confirmed an appeal had been lodged.
McCormack admitted on indictment to distributing indecent photographs of children at an address in Clayhills Gardens, Birkhill, on October 8 2011.
He further admitted that, between June 23 and October 22 2011, he downloaded indecent photographs of children.
