Road restrictions to improve safety at two schools will be in place for the start of next term.
There will be bans on vehicles using St Mary’s Lane in Lochee, next to St Mary’s RC Primary, and the eastern part of Fintry Place in Broughty Ferry, by Forthill Primary, around the time pupils are arriving and leaving.
Parents had petitioned for action and their pleas were considered by a city council working group on pupil safety. Councillors then approved seeking a legal traffic order in February but this could only go ahead after a public consultation.
A report to the city development committee explains that no objections or comments were received from the public and the order has now come into operation.
Signs will be placed at both locations next month and the driving bans, between 8.30am and 9.15am and between 3pm and 3.30pm on school days, will come into force when the 2013/14 term begins.
Parents at Forthill have been worried by traffic congestion around the school. At St Mary’s, the problem has been the proximity of traffic on the narrow cobbled road to the children.
