An Angus teacher from Dundee was struck off on Thursday.
Angus McCormack, 50, who taught IT at Monifieth High, was jailed for three-and-a-half years after being caught with thousands of indecent images and 10 hours of child abuse videos.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland removed McCormack from its register following a fitness to teach hearing. The hearing had been called to answer a complaint that he had pled guilty at Forfar Sheriff Court in September last year.
Linda Gray, the fitness to teach panel’s convener, said: “The nature of the offence and the length of the term of imprisonment indicated that the conviction was serious.”
McCormack had indicated he accepted that, if the complaint was proved, it would mean he was unfit to teach.
Mrs Gray said: “In light of this admission and the fact the panel considered the nature of the conviction represents conduct that is incompatible with being a registered teacher, the panel decided the respondent falls short of the standards expected of a teacher and is therefore unfit to teach.”
McCormack has launched an appeal. He was convicted of having the photos at an address in Birkhill and making indecent photos and pseudo-photos of children.
