The operators of a Dundee hospital have said it has a new procedure for giving over-the-counter medicines to residents.
Monroe House in Americanmuir Road looks after adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
As The Courier reported on Wednesday, a Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) report voiced concerns about the provision of “homely remedies,” including paracetamol, as it was possible for staff not to have full knowledge of what a resident was taking.
A spokeswoman for Castlebeck Care said: “The Monroe House management team brought the subject to the inspector’s attention in order to clarify their procedures and work to improve the service.
“The service carefully monitors and audits its administration of the medicines and this was recognised as positive practice by HIS. The new procedure for homely remedies has responded to concerns on the recording of the drug administration.
“Monroe House now has a new procedure in place, which is in line with other services, and has an open reporting and early warning system. HIS recognised the overall effectiveness of medicine management procedures at Monroe House.”
The spokeswoman added that a revised timetable for dealing with the findings of the report had been agreed with HIS.
