Plans for a restaurant on Dunsinane industrial estate have been rejected by the city council.
Cloverleaf wanted to build the bar/restaurant, along with three staff flats and parking, on a site bordering Kings Cross Road.
Its planning application argued many of its customers would be drawn from the other businesses on the estate, with food accounting for two-thirds of its sales. It hoped to be allowed to open from 7am to 11pm daily.
Council planners have now decided the development should not go ahead.
They said the size of the building, the number of parking spaces and the provision of a large children’s play area meant the restaurant was “clearly aimed” towards visiting members of the public rather than employees of local companies.
That meant it would breach local planning policies.
Cloverleaf had also failed to show that a restaurant at the location would not adversely affect the industrial estate or the vitality of the city centre or district centres such as Lochee.
“There are no material considerations that would justify approval of planning permission in this instance,” a council report said.
It is not yet known if Cloverleaf intends to appeal the council’s decision.
