Woman suing solicitor over loss of partner’s house

A Dundee woman is suing a solicitor for £250,000 over a claim she lost her home when her partner died.
Sarah Gray, of Cardross Place, has accused Scott Campbell of failing to register the family home jointly in both her name and that of Thomas Dempsey, who died aged 59.
Mr Campbell, of the Chamber Practice, said: “We acted for Thomas Dempsey in the purchase of a property.
“We had instruction to transfer a half-share of the property to Sarah Gray.
“After the property was purchased Mr Dempsey countermanded that instruction he had changed his mind and did not wish to make the gift.
“Shortly afterwards, Mr Dempsey passed away and the property went to his son in accordance with his will.
“Whilst we have sympathy with Ms Gray on her shock at finding out that our client had changed his mind we would advise that at the time it was our view that our only duty was to our client who had expressly instructed us that he no longer wishes to gift a one half-share of the house he had purchased to Ms Gray.”
