Shell are planning to close their filling station at the Scott Fyffe roundabout on Kingsway.
Their agents, URS Infrastructure and Environment UK, have lodged a planning application with the city council, although there are no details about the timetable for the work.
A statement accompanying the application says the filling station will be decommissioned, including work to make sure the fuel tanks and all pipes are empty, before demolition.
The shop, canopy and pumps will be knocked down and then the underground storage tanks and their infrastructure removed.
URS said: “Asbestos surveys will also be undertaken and any asbestos-containing materials that have been identified will be removed.
“Any environmental remediation that is required will also be undertaken at this time. The site will be left in a safe and secure condition upon completion.”
The levelled site will be surrounded by a 6ft fence.
Once the filling station is closed the nearest alternative for drivers will be a few hundreds yards away at Asda Milton.
Shell will be left with three outlets in the city, at West and East Marketgait and Forfar Road.
The Courier asked Shell for comment but none was received.
