National Express Dundee has seen a surge in passengers eager to get to Broughty Ferry beach to enjoy the warm weather.
Over the past four weekends it has recorded almost a fifth more people using the No 5 service, which runs between the west end, the city centre and Broughty Ferry, compared to last year.
That works out to an extra 20,000 journeys.
Managing director Phil Smith welcomed the side-effect of the heatwave, saying: “An almost 20% increase in passengers is a remarkable rise.
“We’re very lucky in this city that we have easy access to such a large, clean beach as the one at Broughty Ferry and it’s well served by our No 5, as well as the new outer circle services.
“I’m pleased that people are choosing to leave their cars behind in search of the sun,” he added.
“It means they can relax and enjoy the fantastic weather on the beach or at the local beer garden without having to worry about driving or parking.”
The rise in popularity of the No 5 service has given National Express Dundee a chance to show off its new low-emission hybrid buses, which were partly funded by the Scottish Government.
