Rap rascals Silibil n’ Brains at Dundee film screening
ByGrant Smith
Fake rappers Gavin Reid and Billy Boyd will attend a special screening of documentary the Great Hip Hop Hoax at Dundee Contemporary Arts next month.
The pair, who studied at Dundee College, managed to get a record contract by pretending to be a Californian act called Silibil n’ Brains.
The film features interviews with them, archive footage and animations and is an insight into pursuit of fame, the cost of deception and the shallowness of the music industry.
Alice Black, the head of cinema at DCA, said the “amazing documentary is a highly entertaining but cautionary tale about the price of fame”.
“It’s one of the must-see films of the year for Scottish audiences.”
After the screening on September 6 there will be a question and answer session with Gavin, Billy and film director Jeanie Finlay.
The audience will also be able to enjoy a performance by Silibil n’ Brains and buy their new album before its official release.
Tickets are available from DCA’s box office on Dundee 909900 or online at on the DCA website.
