Furious gardeners are taking turns at camping out overnight to catch vandals in the act after a spate of damage at allotments on the slopes of Dundee Law.
Thugs have struck nearly 30 different allotments within the West Law section over the past six days, with the crimes being carried out in the early hours.
In the latest incident, a greenhouse was smashed, a wire-covered gate cut and a water pipe burst.
Plants were scattered around at least four allotments.
West Law Allotments group secretary Don Elder is among the gardeners camping out overnight.
That could become a regular occurrence with other gardeners in the West Law section thinking of taking turns because they are fed up by the vandalism.
“I stayed over on Monday night and I was going to stay last night but it was quiet here at 10.30 when I left,” said Mr Elder.
“I’m doing it off my own back. I had a camera with me and I saw them.
“I wouldn’t approach them I would have phoned the police or taken a picture of them.
“People on the allotments are thinking of taking turns because we are getting fed up of it. It started on Friday and it’s been constant.
“We’re thinking of putting up CCTV cameras but that’s expensive we’d rather we didn’t have to do anything like this, but we’ve been left with no option.”
Dougie McIntosh (62), who has had his plot for five years, reported a break-in on Friday.
“I don’t think they are experienced thieves because there’s been nothing of great value taken but it’s the damage they are causing because people put a lot of effort in and it’s soul-destroying,” he said.
A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said inquiries into the shed break-ins were continuing.
“The area is being given police attention and we would ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity, or anyone who knows who might be responsible, to get in touch with us,” she added.
