‘All systems are go’ developer says Glass Pavilion flats plan is back on track

A multi-million-pound plan to build luxury properties above The Glass Pavilion restaurant in Broughty Ferry is back on track only days after it was declared ”invalid”.

John Gibson, director of Sangobeg Developments, stressed an administrative error had been to blame for the problems with the previous planning application.

Inaccuracies over ownership certificates and questions over the site boundary led to the ambitious plan being derailed by city planners.

But Mr Gibson, who is behind the venture, said these issues had been resolved and an amended application is now sitting with the authority.

He said: ”In my opinion the development would enhance the existing building. It has been designed in a very sympathetic way and looks just fantastic.”

If approved there will be two floors built on top of the existing C-listed art deco building.

‘They will consist of four two-bedroom flats on the first floor, with a pair of penthouse flats on a second floor offering panoramic views over the River Tay.

At the moment the restaurant is owned by another firm, but Mr Gibson intends to take over the site if the application for new apartments is given the go-ahead.

”From my point of view, all systems are go,” he continued. ”We are talking about a seven-figure investment for this project.”

He continued: ”We are one of the few people trying to spend money in Dundee.”

Despite a depressed housing market Mr Gibson believes the proposed new homes would have huge appeal among house hunters.

”I don’t think it’s going to be difficult to find interest,” he added. ”The architects have done a great job and I believe the apartments will be very popular.”
