The Hilltown in Dundee was shut on Thursday afternoon as firefighters were called to deal with falling masonry. Crew members were alerted just before 1.50pm to masonry falling from the former mosque on the street. A fire service spokeswoman said: “We used an aerial appliance from Macalpine Road to make it safe.” Police units were called to assist, and shut the road until 3pm. The footpath underneath the derelict building was open to pedestrians at the time. Angie McLaughlan, 33, said she is now thinking twice about walking her two children by the building. “The police had it all cordoned off about the back of one,” she said. “It’s quite scary. It’s dangerous. “I walk up and down the Hilltown five or six times a day. I’m just crossing over the road now. “There was a big bit of stone fell in the road.”
