Year’s suspension given to Dundee nurse for misconduct
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee nurse has been suspended for a year for misconduct.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council heard Alexandra Middleton had been sacked from Royal Victoria Hospital after altering medication records.
She was already being monitored by NHS Tayside after a previous error administering drugs but the council’s disciplinary panel found staff were unsure what restrictions had been placed on her.
The charges related to incidents in June 2011, when Middleton was found to have signed for administering medication she did not give the patient and failed to let another nurse know of her concerns with the patient’s fluid chart or that she had removed his catheter.
She also failed to record notes on the patient’s fluid prescription and fluid balance chart, or check care plan records.
