Dundee’s two tallest multis are set to be demolished at the end of next month.
Bucklemaker Court and Butterburn Court in the Hilltown will be torn down on June 30. Safedem will take charge of the controlled explosion and an exclusion zone will be set up around the flats.
Councillor Jimmy Black said nearby residents were being sent letters about the demolition.
He said: “There will be an exclusion zone and a number of people will be asked to leave their homes for that day.
“It would be very unsafe for anybody to be in the immediate vicinity. Although their record is very good, it just takes one brick to fall in the wrong way and it could cause an injury.”
Mr Black said it will be “quite a day” and added that people from across the city will flock to watch.
He said: “The people who have lived in the shadow of these multis for years are going to be delighted because they will see the sun again.”
A Sunday has been chosen for the demolition so that road closures cause the minimum disruption.
