A sports car has been torched in an apparent fire-raising attack in a quiet Monifieth street.
Police are investigating after the silver Audi TT was severely damaged on Milton Street late on Tuesday night.
The car belongs to Cheryl Johnston, 24, a social care officer with Dundee City Council, and had been left in a car park across from her home in the street after suffering a puncture on Saturday.
Partner Jamie Addison, 27, said: “We knew nothing about the fire until the police knocked on our door in the early hours to tell us what had happened.
“We were asleep but rushed outside and saw Cheryl’s car was all charred and in a real mess. She has had it since October and liked it a lot.
“I looks like someone had poured petrol over it and set it on fire. We think it was done on purpose.”
Jamie said the car had been left in the car park since it had the flat tyre and was due to be fixed on Wednesday.
Because he has a car, they did not need a second vehicle.
A unit from Balmossie fire station raced to the scene at about 11.50pm on Tuesday, and firefighters used two hose reels and foam to extinguish the flames.
The blaze had been ignited from splashes of petrol, and some fuel was running along the road. No one was injured.
The incident caused a stir in the normally quiet street, where many of the residents are older people.
Police issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone who witnessed the car being damaged.
People with information should call police on 101 or speak to any officer.
Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
