A new contraflow traffic light system on the Kingsway has been getting mixed reviews from motorists.
Work by contractors Kilmac on the Myrekirk roundabout was started late last year but is now complete.
The new traffic light system to control the flow on the busy route where a new Asda store is being built has now been switched on and motorists have been trying to get their heads around it.
During rush hour at 5pm on Thursday traffic was flowing smoothly and pedestrians were crossing safely using the new lights but some concern was raised by commuters earlier in the morning.
There were reports of traffic becoming backed up at the new lights, with queues for several hundred yards in both directions along the Kingsway.
Regular commuter Nicola Robertson from Perth said: “I arrive at that roundabout at 9.20 every morning and usually get straight through.
“For the first time in ages I was caught in a long queue. Hopefully, it’s just a bedding-in period.”
Engineers were seen monitoring traffic and adjusting the traffic light settings and motorists reported improved traffic flow on Friday morning.
