Volunteers to the fore at start of Dundee festival
ByThe Courier Reporter
Hundreds of people lent a helping hand at the weekend at the start of this year’s Dundee Festival of Volunteering.
The Bonnie Dundee group provided a splash of colour in city centre streets, hoeing and weeding 10 planters and re-stocking them with a variety of summer bedding, as part of the city’s entry into the Beautiful Scotland campaign.
Meanwhile, the Broughty Ferry in Bloom group took part in a litter pick at the beach for the Clean Up Scotland campaign.
The Friends of Riverside Nature and Dundee City Council’s countryside rangers service held an event to encourage people to explore the park.
Young people’s contribution to volunteering was also recognised at an event at youth venue the Shore with an open day.
Saltire awards were presented and there was a showcase for young people’s work through the Shore and Xplore, supporting peers with a range of youth work activities.
Samaritans volunteers were in the playground of Dundee High School, distributing literature and speaking to people interested in becoming volunteers at the local branch.
