A Dundee bank has been forced to break into its own safe after a glitch left staff locked out.
Staff at Royal Bank of Scotland’s Broughty Ferry branch had to call in a locksmith after one of their safes automatically locked and would not open on Thursday morning.
Staff at the Brook Street branch could not open cash drawers or cupboards as all of their keys were contained in the safe. A locksmith drilled into the safe to gain access.
One customer told The Courier: “They looked embarrassed about it. The safe went into automatic lockdown and nobody there could access it.
“They had to get a guy in with a drill so they could access their own safe. The staff said they couldn’t explain what had happened.”
An RBS spokeswoman said: “It was not the main safe but a secondary safe that only contained keys. The electronic lock was not responding when the PIN was entered, so staff called someone to drill out the lock.
