A vicious attacker who left a 31-year-old man in hospital with extensive facial injuries is being hunted by police.
The male, who ran off following the incident, assaulted his victim in Monifieth Road, Broughty Ferry, with what is believed to be a wooden post or pole.
Officers said they were following “positive lines of inquiry” in their investigation into the attack.
The injured man is expected to be kept in Ninewells Hospital until the end of the week.
A police spokeswoman said: “A 31-year-old man walking in Monifieth Road in Broughty Ferry on Tuesday night was seriously assaulted by another man.
“The incident happened at about 11.55pm when the man was walking near to the junction with Taymouth Place.
“Another man approached him and was seen to strike him on the head and face with what looked like a wooden post or pole.
“The man responsible is described as being between 20 and 29, with short fair hair and he was wearing a hooded top. He made off eastwards towards the Invermark Hotel.
“A passing witness called an ambulance and the injured man was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he was found to have sustained extensive facial injuries including several fractures.
“He has been kept in hospital for observation.”
Officers are keen to hear from anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.
