Fitness fans have been flocking to the newly refurbished Lochee Swim and Sport since it reopened last month.
Visitor numbers are up 12.5% on this time last year as people try out the modernised centre created by £1.1 million of investment.
More than 4000 people have already tried out what the centre has to offer and that number has delighted operators Leisure and Culture Dundee.
They hope that is just the beginning, however, and that the number will grow even further as word spreads.
The centre first opened its doors to the Dundee public in 1895 when it was hailed as state-of-the-art.
It had deteriorated over time, but closed its doors in May last year as efforts began to return the baths and other features to their former glory.
Along with aesthetic improvements, Lochee Swim and Sport now boasts a sauna and steam room as part of a large “wellbeing” area, together with a new changing village to make it more family friendly.
Lochee residents, clubs and visitors have now returned in numbers and they seem to have been impressed by the improvements.
A spokeswoman for Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “It’s been an encouraging start since the centre reopened on Monday March 14.
“We have welcomed 4,000 visitors coming through the door, which is 500 up on the same period last year.
“It’s hoped these figures will continue to grow over the coming months as word spreads about the family-friendly facilities, the new sauna and steam room and upgraded cardio equipment in the fitness suite.”
Lochee councillor Tom Ferguson told The Courier he had been delighted by both the quality of the upgrade and the reaction of people to the reopening.
He said: “It has been amazing.”
“I’ve found that I struggle to find parking nearby these days. You can physically see and feel that it is busy.
“I was at the Menzieshill community centre just the other day and so many people were asking whether they could start taking swimming lessons at Lochee.
“It is very positive, not only for the community in general, but for the health of the people in this area.”
