Colourful anime, comic book and video game characters descended on Dundee for the annual Comic Convention (DeeCon) event over the weekend.
The huge growth of the convention meant that, for the first time, it expanded from its base at Dundee University Students’ Union (DUSA) into additional spaces on the campus, including the Chaplaincy Centre and Queen Mother Building.
Film screenings, board and video game tournaments, stalls, exhibitions, demonstrations and industry presentations were held, with the Cosplay Masquerade rounding off the weekend.
The event attracted thousands of visitors who travelled from all over Scotland to attend and praised the convention’s friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Shop assistant Jemma Hutchison, 19, came from Ayshire dressed as a Japanese anime character.
She said: “I’m dressed as Konno Yuuki from the Sword Online anime.
“She’s my favourite character as she is so cute and little, yet she’s a badass with a sword.
“This is the third time I’ve been to DeeCon out of all the anime events, this one is the most sociable.”
“It’s smaller than other conventions and it’s easy to chat to people.”
Tammy Salter, 18, travelled from Glenrothes dressed up as Misa from the anime Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, her favourite female character.
The student said: “Misa is my favourite character from my favourite anime. She’s a female that has all the guys in line and she can be bossy or nice.
“I’ve been coming to DeeCon for six years and I love it. I’m obsessed with anime and it’s great to meet like-minded people.”
Daxx Fastoon, a student from Armadale, is into video games and came dressed as the raccoon Sly Cooper from a game of the same name. The 17-year-old was at DeeCon for the first time and said he liked the atmosphere.
Last, but not least, was Lewis Brown, a 10-year-old from Glenrothes.
He was dressed as Freddy from Five nights at Freddy’s, an indie horror game.
The proceeds of DeeCon will go Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design’s animation degree show.
