Two pensioners have had bags snatched in Dundee city centre this week, each losing three-figure sums of cash.
Police are advising the public to be aware of their personal belongings when out shopping, after a 68 year old woman had her purse stolen at about 1pm in Reform Street and a 70-year-old woman had her purse stolen at about 6pm in the High Street on Wednesday.
Both women were too shaken to speak about their experiences.
Each lost a three-figure sum of cash and personal items.
It is understood no arrests have been made in relation to the theft and no valuables have been recovered.
Officers are advising shoppers to take every precaution to reduce the chances of their purses and handbags being stolen.
Police Scotland advise people carrying handbags, or shopping bags, to never let them out of their sight and they should try to be aware of those around them at all times.
A police spokeswoman issued general advice, saying: “In addition, shoppers should not take more money than they need when shopping. Expensive items should be left at home, rather than carried in a purse or handbag.
“Don’t make it easy for the thief by leaving purses and other valuable property in clear view in bags or trolleys; ensure your property is secured and hidden away.
“Only carry the necessary money you require and try not to advertise your property or purse to the thief and with the latter by letting them know how much money you are carrying, particularly when paying for items.
“If you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of this type of crime, contact the police immediately and also remember to cancel all credit and debit cards with the relevant issuing banks as soon as possible.
“In an emergency contact 999. Alternatively, Police Scotland can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101, or speak to any police officer.”
